A cathartic work, this piece represents my younger years in Montana watching my older brother fly fishing in the gorgeous Gallatin River. The river, ripples,& bedrock are all represented in this piece & I can see my brother's fly fishing rod & the line rhythmically dancing & the heat mirages on the river dancing with and through each other. I feel patterns of my own life joining with them. The stories of life are like this river & I touch the water & the ripples grown larger & drift silently away from my fingertips & I know that eventually all things merge into one as Big Sky Montana, Ponderosa Pines, the bedrock (flap) & the river encircle me & eventually all merge as A River Runs Through It. Visiting China & Hong Kong I purchased batik cloth & the blues in the fabric line the interior base carrying on the river theme. Two silver Hushco buttons adorn the front flap. This gorgeous yarn stripes with shades of blue representing the river & the strap & flap edges ripple like the river & therefore, in this work..".A River Runs Through It "( a book by Norman Maclean)

Trendy or traditional ; pretty and petite are perfect adjectives for these gorgeous knitted , felted & needle felted bags. Until I have a bag in the works and complete it; I have never "FELT" this kind of passion for an art form which is not unique to this era but has been handed down though generations and has become more popular for bags, slippers, mittens, scarves and anything that can be knitted with the gorgeous wools on the market along with so many beautiful novelty yarns. I hope that you enjoy looking at my felted pieces as much as I enjoy the whole process from hand spun yarn to kettle dyeing to the final felting process it is a challenging and fulfilling artform. The process of needle felting adds decorative wool 'pictures' to my finished felted pieces & at times gives the piece a three dimentional look. It is a very rewarding process. I have used many mediums and this is one of my favorites because it is like 'PAINTING WITH YARN". My theme bags/totes are exciting to create but I have other artistic creations that I will enjoy sharing with you. Thank You for stopping by. Patricia Maxwell
