(Knit Textile Art)

Ju-Xian Chrysanthemum City Ju-Xian, is an ancient Chinese city whose name means "chrysanthemum city". This flower was introduced to Japan around the 8th century A.D. & the Emperor adopted the chrysanthemum as his official seal. There is a 'Festival of Happiness" in Japan which celebrates this lovely flower. It was brought to Europe in the 17th century. Linnaeus (botanist), named it for the Greek prefix 'Chrys' which means 'golden' (the color of the original flower) & 'anthemon' meaning 'flower'. The flower is called Oogiku in Japanese meaning big Chrysanthemum. This is a lovely, large bag with a gorgeous interior fabric base continuing the Chrysanthemum theme. A smaller accessory bag continues the theme. Enjoy!

Trendy or traditional ; pretty and petite are perfect adjectives for these gorgeous knitted , felted & needle felted bags. Until I have a bag in the works and complete it; I have never "FELT" this kind of passion for an art form which is not unique to this era but has been handed down though generations and has become more popular for bags, slippers, mittens, scarves and anything that can be knitted with the gorgeous wools on the market along with so many beautiful novelty yarns. I hope that you enjoy looking at my felted pieces as much as I enjoy the whole process from hand spun yarn to kettle dyeing to the final felting process it is a challenging and fulfilling artform. The process of needle felting adds decorative wool 'pictures' to my finished felted pieces & at times gives the piece a three dimentional look. It is a very rewarding process. I have used many mediums and this is one of my favorites because it is like 'PAINTING WITH YARN". My theme bags/totes are exciting to create but I have other artistic creations that I will enjoy sharing with you. Thank You for stopping by. Patricia Maxwell
