Zuni Native American Wedding Bowl (organic)Posted by Knottylady Designs Showstoppers on 6/9/2008Zuni Native Americans are a tribe of New Mexico. This design I created is from a photo of their clay pottery but I created it from natural fibers: organic soy, wool and corn yarns. The natural color wooden beads are added as I knit and then are felted into the bowl. This wedding bowl is called 'Harvest of Happiness" and has many uses besides being decorative. This medium organic knitted/felted bowl holds several bags of river rock & mixed potpourri. In a traditional Native American wedding ceremony the bridal couple is given a wedding vase made by the husband's parents. Indian holy water is placed in the vase and is turned around at the ceremony and given to the bride who drinks from one side and then turns it and the husband drinks from the opposite side. The couple treasures the vase throughout their married life and eventually gives the vase to another couple living a happily married life. The Wedding Vase is treasured & protected & is never broken or destroyed.
