Bourbon Street Bag knitted/felted into this fun Mardi Gras (New Orleans) celebration & I find it very apropos to have completed this bag for Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday) and the celebrations/merrymaking taking place in New Orleans & in other places around the world. Celebrations include a carnival atmosphere and this is what I attempted to capture in this Mardi Gras Bourbon Street theme bag. Several lovely wool yarns and many novelty yarns combine to create this fun/frivolous bag with a lovely knitted but NOT felted flap surrounded by a large ruffle which is edged with lovely novelty yarn looking like beads & flowers. I knitted with beads throughout the ruffle giving it more of the carnival/merrymaking atmosphere occurring in places like New Orleans where merriment & excessive indulgence awaken all senses of frivolity before the solemn season of fasting for Lent. Masks, parades, beads, flowers & street dancing enhance the merriment associated with Mardi Gras.Enjoy!

Trendy or traditional ; pretty and petite are perfect adjectives for these gorgeous knitted , felted & needle felted bags. Until I have a bag in the works and complete it; I have never "FELT" this kind of passion for an art form which is not unique to this era but has been handed down though generations and has become more popular for bags, slippers, mittens, scarves and anything that can be knitted with the gorgeous wools on the market along with so many beautiful novelty yarns. I hope that you enjoy looking at my felted pieces as much as I enjoy the whole process from hand spun yarn to kettle dyeing to the final felting process it is a challenging and fulfilling artform. The process of needle felting adds decorative wool 'pictures' to my finished felted pieces & at times gives the piece a three dimentional look. It is a very rewarding process. I have used many mediums and this is one of my favorites because it is like 'PAINTING WITH YARN". My theme bags/totes are exciting to create but I have other artistic creations that I will enjoy sharing with you. Thank You for stopping by. Patricia Maxwell
